TCG: Find Energy with Professor’s Letter

Professor’s Letter is a great card for any deck.

This card can be found in the XY expansions, and is number 123 out of 146. It is uncommon.

Professor’s Letter is a simple item card that allows you to draw two basic Energy cards from your deck, show them to your opponent, and then put them in your hand. This card is great when you need two pieces of Energy to enable you to unlock your best move; it’s also great when you are trying to find a specific type of energy.

After finding that Energy, you can use the move you want, and if your Pokémon is powerful, take out your opponent!

I have a couple of these cards in my competitive deck, and I recommend that you try them out too!

A Distraction Free Editor for Windows: Write!

Write is software which allows you to write in a distraction free environment; it also gives you an advanced breakdown of your document. You can read more about this below.

Write! features

Write has many features which can help you with your document. It tells you how many words the document will consist of, your words per day and your characters per minute. It also tells you your reading time, which is definitely a great feature for bloggers or if you’re preparing a speech.

Write! also has a native cloud feature, which stores all your documents and syncs them across devices. One of my favourite features is the unlimited ctrl-z feature; even if you have closed Write. The self-learning is also a great time saving feature.  You can also convert your documents to markup.

With Write! you can select themes for titles, headings, subheadings and more, like in Microsoft Word. This is a huge advantage over Evernote. Another great feature is the hundreds of languages Write! comes with; you can have English, Italian, Chinese and Japanese all in the same document.

Once you’ve written your document, you can export it as a PDF, RTF and many more.

Account types

Write! is free for everyone, but there are plans of a Pro version of it coming out, meaning that if you purchase it you will get a truck-load of new features.

The look

One of the features of Write! is the beautiful interface which fits right in with Windows 10. You can choose between 2 modes; light and dark. I personally prefer the dark mode because it saves battery and is gentler on the eyes.

All in all, Write! is a great piece of software for Windows. If you’re a Mac or Linux user, don’t worry, because a version for you is coming out soon!

You can download Write! here.

My Favorite Pokémon Features – New and Old

Pokémon has evolved drastically since I got my first game, Pokémon Pearl. There are many features I love, which have not been brought forward to the new games (I’m hoping that they will take some of these features into the next main story game). Below are my top 5 favourite features from any of the main story games.

Having a bike with changing gears – Pokémon Diamond & Pearl

I loved the way you could change gears on the bike in Diamond and Pearl. I found that changing to a slower gear whilst navigating a tricky bit of road was a great addition.

Having your Pokémon walk behind you – Pokémon SoulSilver & HeartGold

I found it really cool that when you would walk around you would have your lead Pokémon following you around, and that it could interact with you and find items for you. I also liked that they would react to different areas they were in; such as if they were in a cave, they might be ‘uncomfortable’.

The Pokémon Centre and the store being in the same place – Pokémon X & Y

This was great, as it meant that after healing your Pokémon you could then go buy some goodies. This saved loads of time as the Pokémon Centre and the store were in the same building, meaning that you did not have to run to the other side of the town just to get some full restores.

Being able to change clothing – Pokémon X & Y

Changing clothing was a great feature in Pokémon X & Y; it let you customize your character to make it more personal. It was also a great way to waste the huge sums of money you had sitting around after you finished the game.

Reusable TMs – Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire

Reusable TMs are a new and great feature. Good TMs cost a fortune, so it is great that you can buy one and use it on as many Pokémon as you want, saving you a ton of money.

So, those are my favourite features. I hope the old ones will be in the new game!

Chat to Your Friends Using Pidgin

Pidgin is a great tool for bringing all your chat services to one place. You can connect is with services such as Facebook Chat and Google Hangouts. Group chats can also be added.

Pidgin is a great tool for Windows which allows you to chat to your friends on loads of chat sites. You can be chatting to a friend on Facebook, getting work off a fellow student on Google Hangouts, and be involved in a thrilling group talking about your History project all at once.

Pidgin is easy to use, and it only takes a few seconds to set up your Facebook Chat or many others listed. By the way, to get Facebook Chat up and running, you need to download and add this plugin.

The Pidgin interface (this looks slightly different on Windows 10)

Once everything is going, Pidgin runs really smoothly and works very quickly. Its great for seeing who’s online and keeping all your chats in one place.

If you’re a Mac user you can find the alternative to Pidgin here.

Zygarde’s New Forms!

Zygarde now has 5 forms! It’s final form is even more powerful than Xerneas and Yveltal, meaning that it could be a great Pokémon to have in your team! Keep reading to find out more info!

The Zygarde Cell
The Zygarde Core

To the left is the Zygarde cell. You can find them scattered around a region. This Pokémon cannot do any moves, so you can’t use it to battle. As it cannot battle, it might not even be a Pokémon!

The Zygarde core is aware, and it uses the Cells to become a Pokémon. It can talk to other Cores and Cells through telepathy.

Zygarde 10% form
Zygarde 50% form

When the Core has gathered 10% of the nearby Cells, it turns into Zygarde 10% form. This form looks like a dog, and is is suggested that it has a very high speed stat.

When 50% of the nearby Cells are gathered, Zygarde is in its 50% form, which is the form we all know from Pokémon X and Y. Many people already have this form.

The final form is the most powerful one, and may be the most powerful Pokémon out there. But is is highly likely that you will not be able to use it in competitions, as the normal Zygarde was also not allowed. This form is when the Zygarde Core has gathered 100% of the cells nearby it. It might be another version of mega-evolution.

Zygarde 100% form

So those are all the new forms. I can’t wait to try them out!

Moleskine Ballpoint Click Pen Review

The Moleskine ballpoint pen is a great tool. It easily clips onto your Moleskine, allowing you to always have a pen with your Moleskine.

The pen costs $14.95 (£12.99) on the Moleskine site. You can buy it here. It is made out of plastic, and has a steel clip which you can clip to your Moleskine.

The Moleskine ballpoint pen is nice to use, but takes some time to get used to due to the odd rectangle shape. The ink flows very nicely, and feels great to use. Below is a comparison of a Lamy Vista ballpoint, a Parker Jotter and the Moleskine ballpoint.

Writing with the Moleskine pen

The Moleskine Jotter is a great size too, and it fits well onto your Moleskine, whether Pocket or Large size. The Moleskine I have it on is the Moleskine Voyageur, which is a medium size. Your Moleskine will still fit in your pocket, even with the pen on, as the pen is quite slim. Below is a comparison of the Moleskine pen, a one pence coin, and the Lamy Vista ballpoint.

The pen also comes with stickers, which you can stick to it to decorate it.

Of course, the ink is replaceable. To replace the ink, locate the hole at the top of the pen. Then, get an object which can get into the hole and push down. The clicker should pop out.

The pen clips easily to your Moleskine, but it does damage to it, which in the long term, can really damage your front covers inside.

After clipping the pen on my Moleskine Voyageur for the first time, damage is done

That is one of the major problems. On my Moleskine Passion Book Journal, the front cover card is extremely damaged.

All in all, the pen is nice. The only bad thing is that it damages the Moleskine’s cover, and it is a tad overpriced for a plastic pen, but it is offset by the practicality of having your pen on your Moleskine all the time.

Gym in the Spotlight: Sootopolis City

The Sootopolis City gym is the last gym, so it’s the hardest! This gym is Water type, so you will want to bring along Electric and Grass types.

The leader is Wallace, and all his Pokémon are Water type. Therefore, you want to take Electric and Grass type, so you can hit them with super-effective moves. Wallace has 5 Pokémon.

  • Luvdisc (Lvl. 44)
  • Whiscash (Lvl. 44)
  • Sealeo (Lvl. 44)
  • Seaking (Lvl. 44)
  • Milotic (Lvl. 46)

Make sure your Pokémon are at least Lvl. 50 before you challenge him.

Wallace will take out Luvdisc first. You’ll want to watch out for its attract, as this can incapacitate you Pokémon. After you take out Luvdisc, he will take out Whiscash. Make sure you don’t use an Electric type moves, as they have no effect, as Whiscash is a ground type Pokémon. When you’ve taken out Whiscash, Wallace will take out Sealo. Sealo is a Ice and Water type. Watch out for his Body Slam move. Next up is Seaking, who is relatively easy to take out. Last up is Milotic, which is the hardest Pokémon Wallace has. Milotic will keep using the move Recover to keep its health up, so you want a powerful Stab move to take it out in one or to goes.

Once you have defeated Wallace, you will obtain HM05 (Waterfall) and you will get the rain badge. You next challenge is the Pokémon League!

All in all, Sootopolis city gym is relatively easy, being the last gym. Make sure you take enough items to heal yourself and revive you Pokémon if you get into a tricky spot. If you want to check out my must have items for the Pokémon League post, you can check out my post here.

Keep All Your Research in One Place with Mendeley

Mendeley is software that can help you to keep track of your research and citations.
The Mendeley logo

Mendeley for Windows

Mendeley is a tool which helps keep track of all you documents, and it also allows you to annotate and highlight them. You can also generate citations from your library. You can also get a plugin for Microsoft Word, which allows you to insert citations from any document from you library. You can get a ‘Add to Mendeley’ bookmarklet for your browser, but I’m hoping that they will make a Chrome extension. I’m also hoping that they will integrate with Evernote.

Mendeley for Microsoft Word (plugin)

You can also get Mendeley for Android and iOS. Your library syncs across all devices, which means you cann get your documents on your phone and tablet.

Mendeley for iPad

Mendeley is a really great tool. It looks nice, works well, and is great for managing your citations. I definitely recommend that you download it today!

Turtwig uses Stealth Rock to eliminate Focus Sashes and also to provide support for a team member attempting to sweep. Protect can be used to survive Explosion which is often a suicide move used by Gastly and Voltorb. Seed Bomb is Turtwig’s most powerful move. Crunch is a great move, which will KO Gastly and Drifloon, and also has great coverage.
I suggest you try out Turtwig in your team!

Make a Penholder for Your Moleskine

Moleskine’s are great tools, but to use one, you need a pen. Sadly, Moleskine’s do not come with pen holders. You do have the option to buy a Moleskine pen (which I will review), but you can also make a quick and easy penholder. Read how below.

Image guide (click to make larger)

You need 5 things:

  • Moleskine
  • The pen you want to use
  • Some card (or hard paper)
  • Sticky tape
  • Scissors

Firstly, see how big you pen is. Put the card around the pen, making sure you are able to slip the pen in and out.

Once you have the size right, stick down the excess card. Now you have a hoop for the pen. Make sure that it won’t break in two seconds. Then, put the pen holder over the back pocket, which, of course, is at the back of the Moleskine. Fold the excess card or paper into the back pocket. If there is still some card left, you can fold it over again in the back of the notebook. If you want to make sure the pen holder doesn’t move, you can tape it down (or use blue tack) but this can damage the back pocket.

Tada! A pen holder! I hoped you enjoyed this guide!
